Obituary for Elizabeth Weitkamp (1821-1913)
No. 143 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

The deceased, who has been laid to rest, was mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother –Elizabeth WEITKAMP (LENDINGHAUS). She was born Feb. 11, 1821, in Westerkappeln, Kreis Tecklenburg, Germany. At the age of 27 she came to this country and lived in St. Louis until 1851, when she was united in marriage to Johan Frederich BERLEKAMP at Femme Osage, Mo. They made their home on a farm between Cappeln and Femme Osage. Six children were born to this union, three dying in infancy. In 1866 her husband died; in 1872 she married Casper WEITKAMP of Cappeln. After living several years near Cappeln they moved to Lincoln county, residing on a farm. There her second husband died in 1900. After a stay of two years by herself she decided to go to Napoleon and live with her two sons, Frederick and Herman BERLEKAMP.

Grandma WEITKAMP was a devoted Christian and a member of the Evangelical church. She lived a fruitful life in the fellowship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She anxiously awaited the calling of her Savior and Redeemer, to follow Him into the heavenly mansions above. She died January 22nd, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 11 days. Her earthly remains were laid to rest in the cemetery of the German Evangelical St. Paul Congregation at Napoleon, Mo. She is survived by two sons, seven foster children, twenty grand children and five great-grand- children. The funeral services were conducted by C.F. SABROSKY, Evangelical pastor at Napoleon, Mo.

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
