Teacher Retires After 41 Years

Mrs. Nora (Wildschuetz) Harralson of Foristell will retire from teaching at the end of the school term, ending 41 years of service in elementary education. She began her teaching career in 1935 at Doeblin School in St. Charles County. Doeblin School was a rural one-room school located in a wooded area approximately three miles north of Cappeln. She spent 16 years teaching all grades in rural one-room schools - namely Doeblin, Oakdale, Meredian, Liberty Grove, Cappeln and Wentzville.

Mrs. Harralson attended Central Wesleyan College in Warrenton for six successive summers; each summer earning 10 hours of credit. Thirty collage hours were obtained through correspondence courses from Missouri University and Kirksville. She finally received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Washington University by attending full evening classes and summer sessions.

Several summers were spent teaching remedial reading and math at Benton School and several summers were spent teaching under Title I programs at Wright City School. Two summers were spent with "Head Start" at Wright City and for two years besides regular teaching duties, she worked evenings with Adult Education groups in Wright City.

Twelve successful years of teaching were at Lincoln School in St. Charles. Her last 12 years were spent at Charbonier School in Hazelwood School District.

Mrs. Harralson says she will miss the students,parents and teachers. "It has been an interesting and rewarding career, but all good things come to an end," she said.
