Luther E. Bierbaum, 78, Washington, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Washington.
Luther, son of the late Ora J. Bierbaum and wife Stella M., nee McVey, was born March 4, 1939, in Marthasville.
On Aug. 27, 1960, he was united in marriage to Judith A. Jett, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Washington.
Luther and Judy lived in upstate New York for 30 years
and returned to Washington in 2010. Luther was employed with IBM for three decades, ending his career there as an account executive,
and began a second career with the Olan Mills Company. He served on the Board of Trustees at Columbia College in Columbia,
where he received an honorary baccalaureate in business management.
Luther had a great passion for golf, having played at many of the world's most storied courses.
At the age of 77, Luther shot his age at his local club, Franklin County Country Club.
Luther was an avid goose hunter, enjoying many cold mornings in his goose blind in upstate New York.
He was a man of deep faith and was very active in the Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and treasurer. His positive attitude and unwavering optimism carried throughout his entire life. He had a special bond with his grandchildren, Taylor, Natalie and Rocco, and delighted in spending time with them. His love for his grandchildren was always apparent in the loving ways he shared stories of their adventures.
As a lifelong Cardinals fan, he loved attending games with family and friends.
Luther is survived by his wife, Judy Bierbaum; two children, W. Mark Bierbaum, Washington, and Elizabeth Bierbaum Clarke and husband Michael, Wilmette, Ill.; three grandchildren, Taylor and Natalie Bierbaum, and Rocco Clarke; one cousin, Kenny Bierbaum and wife Mary, Washington; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Leon George Bierbaum.
A memorial service celebrating Luther's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Presbyterian Church of Washington.
Memorial donations are appreciated to the Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
