T47N R1E Sec 16. Located at 1066
North Point Prairie Road on Prairie Hill Farm. Owned by Charles
and Karla Hagan.
See p. 43 Gone But Not Forgotten. Many of the stones are
down, and a few are not found. Several are marked 'infant'
-- noted by MJM as 'infant children of Lewis & Fannie Bondurant';
she also notes one grave marked onlywith rough stones, which are still
there. Her account says this is the burial grond of Joel and Lucy
Richards who came to Missouri from Rocky Mount, Franklin County,
Virginia, in wagons, bringing 30 slaves with them. In 1933 this
farm was said to have been held by one family longer than any other
farm in the county -- over 100 years. The slaves' burying ground
was located north of the house.
Childred of Joel and Lucy Richards, as listed by Mrs. McElhiney, wer:
Shadrach M., Elijah W., Edward R., David, Fanny, Susan and Sally
(unmarried). Heirs of Shadrach and his wife Sally were Mrs. Sally
Mitchelll (of California), Mrs. Jane Harmon (of St. Louis), and Mrs.
Abigail Beckman (St. Louis County). These three sisters inherited
the farm, and Mrs. Beckman, wife of W.L., bought the interest of her
two sisters. The farm was also know as the "Dwyer Place."
